Jeremy Bell is general secretary of the North American Baptist Fellowship, one of six regional fellowships of the Baptist World Alliance.
- Where did you grow up?
Starting in Watford, England, and immigrating to Canada via Moncton, New Brunswick, at the age of 2, I have lived in 13 houses and gone to nine different schools before the age of 15.
Apart from 18 months at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, my formative years were spent in New Brunswick, Alberta, and Vancouver, Canada.
- What is your favorite verse, book or story in the Bible? Why?
Romans 8:37-39.
I have often leaned into this for myself and shared it with others.
- What is your favorite movie? Why?
For 20 years, “Chariots of Fire.” For 10 years, “How Green is My Valley” and the theme music from “Morning Glory.” I’m also partial to the “Abide with Me” song from the London 2012 Olympics and the “Pop Up Hallelujah Chorus” from a Minneapolis food fair.
In very different ways, I am touched by how God emerges in each of these.
- Who are three people you admire?
William Wilberforce, Jimmy Carter and Margaret Ridgeway, who was disowned by her family and gave up her freedom to go teach school in the Canadian Japanese internment camps during World War II.
- What is one little-known fact about yourself?
I am a competitive cinnamon bun maker in the Cobble Hill Country Fair for the last 30 years.
